Music from the Deep Blue Seas
Blue Seas was a legendary recording studio located in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor from 1975 until Christmas Day 1977. Recording home to many of Baltimore’s brightest musical talents, a tradition was born there that did not die when the studio met an early demise and now the spirit is back with many of the talented artists and engineers from that era fully engaged in creating music for a new time and place as well as an entirely new group of songwriters and producers anxious to make their mark alongside the already established guild.
This picture was taken just before I leased the houseboat pictured between the big motor yacht with the sailboats alongside and the empty barge in front. While it doesn't look too glamorous in this picture, it had actually been converted from a work barge into a Danish Modern houseboat with all the nice fixtures and accessories of a fabulous home.
It was in 1975 when we moved in and the Inner Harbor of Baltimore had not yet blossomed into what it is today. In 1976 the Bi-Centenial celebration with the Tall Ships took place here virtually all around us and from there Baltimore's Inner Harbor took off and never looked back.
I hope to post a picture taken now from the same angle to illustrate the dramatic change in the scenery. Stay tuned!!!
I also will be posting progress on my project to release an album of original music either recorded at Blue Seas or written and performed by artists that had a connection to the studio and it will be called Music from the Deep Blue Seas.
